hellorachael: (I'm saving myself for Jason)
I'm going to copy [livejournal.com profile] trelali and make a separate filter for my crazy. I don't want to bog down my whole flist.

I'm still learning how to to share the crazy bipolar and it's a very vulnerable place for me. Thus, a filter seems like a good start.

Please comment if you want in on the filter.

Step One
- Make a post (public, friends locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friends friends, or just random journals, or holiday_wishes/wish_list) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

My Yuletide List

1. This is my Target Wish List. Don't sweat this one. I make one every year for my mother to go Christmas shopping for me. There's a lot on there, but mostly so that she still feels like she can surprise me. I mostly need work clothes!

2. Books! Especially Hans Christian Anderson or Grimm Fairy Tales. New, used, whatever! I used to have SO MANY and now not so much.

3. I like birds. A lot.

4. Headbands!!! I ADORE headbands like: this and this. (Please don't spend spend $30 bucks on a headband... it's just an example!) it's just so pretty! Even better if you know how to make those yourself!

5. Do you know how to knit? I would DIE for a soft, comfy knit scarf!! Color of choice: probably a cream or grey :)

6. Nail polish. My nails have been short and icky my whole life and very recently I woke up one morning and my nails started to grow! It's a miracle. They're suuuper weak but I'm trying to strengthen them! I love the Essie brand, particularly The Winter Collection. Or just similar colors :) I love the hot coco!

7. If you draw or paint, I would love some of your art to decorate my apartment with! :)

8. I LOVE dinosaurs. No joke.

9. Paid account time! My paid account expires in a month! :)

10. Foreign coins... basically not American coins. I used to collect coins from other countries. I worked in Girl Scout camps (with girls from all over the world) for a few years I had a sweet collection- and the fire destroyed it all and I haven't had a chance to start a new collection. :(

I hope you all post this because I'd like to send people stuff this year if I can ♥ I know I'm terrible about sending mail but I really want to get better about that! :)

I can't sleep.

I've been internet "window shopping" all night while Alex played Fallout New Vegas. I'm really, really wanting to update my wardrobe. It's ridiculous. I have two problems with this: 1) I'm BROKE.  2) I can't exactly settle on a style... 3) Chances are I'm too large to wear most of these styles anyway.

Let's start with these booties...
I love wishlists! ) Ugh. Some of the html got a bit wonky. Not bad, just annoying for me, haha.
hellorachael: (Alistair approves!)
Alex finally cut into the styrofoam for my gravestones tonight!! Tomorrow, we're going to cut them into shape and paint them!

I also am nearly finished with my Halloween cupcake stand!! I just need the cylinders (I'll be using the frosting containers once we've baked and frosted our cupcakes!). I'll have some pictures soon!

I have had NO LUCK finding barbie dolls (or any similar shaped dolls) for the mummy/oscar trophies that I wanted to use for prizes for our costume contest. :( I have a feeling tomorrow will have me mixing flour and water for paper mâché... we'll see how this goes...

A bunch of us went over to a friends house to carve pumpkins the other day! :)

And this is what we now have chillin' on the porch!

(I wont lie though, when we woke up this morning, Lionel Richie's face was eaten off...)

Today Alex and I slept in until 2pm!!

We cleaned the apartment and then went out!! We bought supplies for the grave stones I'm making for the Halloween party I'm throwing next week. We stopped at Michael's and the sheets of Styrofoam there were $5 a piece! So, we stopped next door to Home Depot and got a pack of 6 sheets for $6.50!! There, we also learned that spray paint will melt styrofoam :/ So the guy behind the paint counter mixed us the perfect shade of grey paint!

I can't wait to get started on them! I'll post pictures when we start!

A picture of our Michael's Extravaganza:

We also picked up what we needed for Alex's costume... a Sim! So excited! :)

Tomorrow, I'm going to my mom's house with Stacey and Joey and we're going to make our costumes! We're being the The Fates from Greek mythology and it's going to be amazing!

But for now, we're settled down for the night :) I've got a warm blanket, some chicken lo mein from my favorite Chinese restaurant and we're finishing up book 2 of Avatar the Last Airbender :)
It's a good night♥

My wish list- not just for Christmas or my birthday- just things I want♥
picture heavy :) )

I'll probably add more to this randomly. I can't really afford anything on this list but it's all so pretty and shiny- and hey, a girl can dream, right?

I think I need to add some more color to my list- that's what Alex says at least. He wont let me buy anything grey when we shop together... haha.

What are some of your favorite sites to shop/want to shop? My list here so far consists of anthropologie, CharlotteRusse, Gap, Banana Republic, American Eagle, and Neiman Marcus. I want to look at new sites!

edit: etsy, Coach and Victoria's Secret added to the list.

Fire pt.2

hellorachael: (Robin Hood wasn't REALLY a fox...)
It's been almost a week since my apartment burned down.

I'm ok, in fact, I'm really good. It's hard when I think about it for too long or today when I flipped the switch to the kitchen light and the bulb died- nearly had a heart attack. But all in all, I have so many people supporting me and helping me out that I am so humbled.

People at Olive Garden got together and raised $429 for me to help rebuild my life and Darden (the main company) is sending me a card to match that. I'm really lucky. I had a lot of irreplaceable things in my room and nothing will bring those things back, but it's nice to know that I have the ability to make more memories and take care of myself.

My dad said today (we went out to lunch) that this was probably a blessing in disguise. I guess it's true, I'm away and done with my room mates, I just wish it hadn't come with such a catastrophic consequence... if that makes sense.

But I'm ok. I'm a very, very lucky girl. My hand is even healing really quickly too- to the point I no longer need it bandaged. It'll leave an ugly scar, but I think scars build character :)

People have donated things to me- like a mirror, an iron and ironing board, clothes and so forth. It's amazing how many people there are that are so kind. I've decided from here on out I will never throw things out- I will always donate to Salvation Army and the like when I have things I no longer need/want.

My birthday is on Monday and I'm really looking forward to it too :) 25 years old...

Fire

hellorachael: (*facepalm* Mulan)
My apartment burned down today.

Plugged in a lamp in my bedroom and the electricity in my room went out. I flipped the breaker and heard a pop from my room. When I got in there the cord to the lamp was in flames and melted to the carpet and my bed had caught on fire.

Everyone is safe. I cut my wrist because the glass on the fire extinguisher wouldn't break, but I'm fine.

But all of our things are gone.
It's so surreal. We go tomorrow to see if anything was salvageable. The fire dept. says there might be a photo album or something. But we'll see.

I'm going to stay with Alex for now. Still have to hear from Jake and Andrea if this is going to be a permanent thing.

I'm not looking forward to seeing my burnt bedroom- or at least what is left of it. I had just bought myself a pretty dress for my birthday too.

Things are things and I'm so happy no one was hurt... but, it' not easy losing everything.

Just wanted to update.
